Louisiana Realtors Association is looking for area real estate professionals who are interested in getting involved in a Young Professionals Committee in the state association. This committee is defining “young” as anyone under 40 years old. Please submit to patricia@nabors.org the names and contact information of anyone in your office who fits the criteria and may be interested in getting involved in their state Realtor professional association. You are asked to return these names to the NABOR Office before March 10.
IMPORTANT NEWS…. Federal Flood program halted - Closings could be stalled…..
If a closing is scheduled this week that needs flood insurance, it would be a good idea to check with your insurance provider to make sure everything is in place. Be advised of the following…
The U.S. Senate adjourned Friday afternoon without completing consideration of their "Extensions" Bill. This means that, on Sunday night, Feb. 28, at 11:59PM, both the flood insurance program and COBRA (as well as other programs) officially expired. We are told that the Senate will vote on the legislation to extend these programs for 30 additional days immediately upon returning to Washington, D.C. early next week, but unfortunately, it is now a certainty that these programs will temporarily expire until that vote.
FEMA has issued a bulletin advising insurance agents and consumers on what to do if the program is allowed to expire. FEMA specifically states that, should the program expire, "the program will not be allowed to operate and you are to be guided by Bulletin W-09068, issued October 27, 2009, and titled 'Recommendations/Guidance for Possible NFIP Authority Lapse and Hiatus’. NFIP Authorization
- If Congress does not reauthorize the NFIP by midnight of the last day of effective authorization, the
Program will experience a hiatus – a period without authority to:
- issue new policies,
- issue increased coverage on existing policies, or
- issue renewal policies until Congress reauthorizes it.
- If there is a lapse in NFIP authorization, any hiatus period should be brief, and most of the nearly 5.6 million flood insurance policyholders nationwide will not be affected.

Doors open at 11:30am with a cash bar. Lunch is served and the awards program will begin at 12:15pm. Tickets are only $27 per guest, if made before March 9 or $37 per guest, if received after March 9. Non-NABOR guests are also welcome to attend at $37 per ticket. Thank you for understanding that this increase ticket price after March 9 has to be strictly adhered to. This means your paid reservation must actually be in the NABOR Office by March 9…………9 more days!!
Reservations forms are available on www.nabors.org. Don’t risk seating problems by waiting until the last minute to make your party’s reservations. The ballroom will be set with round tables of eight (8). Only if a company buys an entire table (8 tickets) will that table be reserved in the company’s name. All other non-reserved seating is open and subject to availability upon your arrival.

A professional photographer will be on hand again this year at the Sales Awards Luncheon to capture impressive winners. Get your company group together and have a picture taken. Feel free to approach Phillip Colwart, the photographer, and ask him to take a picture of you and/or your associates. Photos will then be posted online. If you like the way the picture came out, you can order copies. If you don’t care for the results, there is no obligation to buy any pictures. That’s a nice deal!!

The NABOR Education Committee is working hard to schedule continuing ed classes in the eastern and central areas of St. Tammany Parish, as well as in the Hammond area.
Earn 4 continuing-ed credit hours – Louisiana Real Estate License Law, 2010 Mandatory Class, Thursday, March 25, Tchefuncta Country Club, #2 Country Club Pk, Covington, LA 70433, off Hwy 21, 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Class will be taught by Vance Ott of Bayou Title.
Free for NABOR members. You must register in advance. If you reserve a seat at the class but do not show-up without canceling 24 hours in advance, there is a $20 assessment fee. Non-NABORS are welcome to attend the class for $20.

NABOR LEGISLATIVE OUTREACH….
Many thanks to Bill Boyd, LR Regional III Vice-President from Houma, for donating a fabulous New Orleans Saints Super Bowl framed collage as a door prize at last week’s Legislative Outreach at Beau Chene Country Club. The audience received informative updates on legislative issues involving the area’s real estate industry. Thank you to the Louisiana Realtors Association and our northshore state representatives who were on hand.
NEW AGENT ORIENTATION CLASSES FOR 2010….
Future new agent orientation class dates are: March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, October 18 and December 6. All paperwork and fees must be in the Wednesday before the class.
USED OFFICE FURNITURE..….
If anyone knows of a company, office or individual looking to donate to a non-profit association, any used office furniture such as seminar chairs, tables, desks, room petitions, that are in respectable condition, please contact the NABOR Office, 892-5200.
