February 1, 2012
Dear NABOR Colleagues,
As we neared the end of 2011, plans were made to launch 2012 with a new vision and creative thinking to assist and support our membership in their professional endeavors, and to, hopefully, provide some entertainment along the way!
January is a particularly busy month at the Board and includes LR conference, but our own strategic planning has produced a full and varied program for the year. We will be forwarding the calendar to membership soon.
You will be provided this year with regular and pertinent continuing education class offerings. Last year`s education program was extremely beneficial to us all, but we also have other events that will allow you to network with your peers, as we aim to provide a bigger picture of our true Northshore spirit and our place, as your local board of choice, in the National Realtor membership.
Congratulations to us all on the recent “Yes means No “’ tax transfer vote ! Our local grass roots efforts truly established Louisiana as a poster child, nationally, for the support of NO transaction taxes. Many of you distributed flyers and signs, while brokerages displayed signage wherever possible, and you were all certainly responsible for help in educating the public. Your efforts were successful and appreciated.
On February 16th we will once again host the Louisiana Realtor`s Legislative Outreach at Keith Young`s Restaurant in Madisonville. We hope you will attend in full force. These are the valuable programs that keep you informed of how LR is working alongside our National Association in supporting you, our membership. Since the defeat of the transaction tax amendment, there are other issues that will require our support in the future. The NABOR Board of Directors is working extremely hard to make our Legislative and PAC involvement stronger in the state. The Northshore community needs YOU ! With incredible growth forecasted along the I-12 corridor, please be involved and make sure Northshore voices are heard in our political and community involvement. The Directors of the local Chambers of Commerce will also be on hand at 10:00am on February 16th to advise our members of all the exciting developments in our area that can have an impact on your real estate business. All are invited to come hear their interesting news!
On the subject of commitment, please know that our Executive Director, Patricia Oman, is available to help and welcomes the opportunity to assist with any of your professional association needs. We have a long-standing dedicated team at the NABOR office, including Administrative Assistant, Sandy Lerouge, who is also eager to work with you. Please consider the NABOR Office as your professional resource center.
I have heard the comment several times that most Realtors are not interested in their local board; they just want somewhere to put their license. This is something I challenge. I personally recognize that there are a lot of very dedicated members in our Board. This year`s Board of Directors are certainly committed to serve and inspire you in 2012. Thank you to all the members who have stepped up to help on the various committees this year. Please call or e-mail me if you would like to get more involved in your professional association, 504-578-7691, carolewoodward@bellsouth.net.
We join together in making our northshore board have another prosperous year!
Carole Woodward, NABOR 2012 President
